Acton is a great place to live -- and we want to keep it that way, for everyone!
Keep Acton Affordable is a group of citizens concerned about the impact of a $6.6M override on our entire community.
A NO vote is an opportunity to reign in years of overspending and realign spending with goals that make Acton better for all residents.
Taxes on the average single-family home are projected to increase by $462 in FY25 without an override. WITH an override, the increase will be up up to $1,333.
A tax override will mean a PERMANENT property tax increase that will continue to increase by at least 2.5% every year -- forever.
School enrollment has been steadily declining for 15 years, yet the School Committee and administration claim the override is driven by "extraordinary" circumstances. In fact, the override is due to years spending beyond their means, as demonstrated by their consistent use of reserves in annual budgets to support ongoing operations. The Select Board has failed in its duty to keep the School Committee accountable to the entire community.
Saying NO to this override will force all of our boards to adopt sound financial practices, such as maintaining healthy levels of reserve funds and using them only for truly extraordinary expenses.
Defeating the override would require the Town and School District to focus on essential services before all else.
